Necklaces for men
Jewelry and men has long been a difficult topic. Traditionally, "classic" men's jewelry was considered a nice watch and at most one ring—usually a wedding band. Men who wore more, such as bracelets, earrings, or even multiple necklaces, stood out and were considered... let's say, very extroverted. On the other hand, men's necks have always been adorned, be it with a tie, a bow tie, a scarf, or even a necklace.
For a long time, however, the fashion zeitgeist dictated that this area of the male body remain "free of ornaments." Ties were considered stuffy and part of the office uniform, bow ties were more commonly known from historical films, and chains were considered gang-wear or trashy.
Thankfully, the days of no jewelry are over for men, and necklaces are beginning their renaissance. Harry Styles and A$AP Rocky made chains socially acceptable again for men of all shapes and sizes. We'd like to introduce you to the most important trends in men's necklaces:
1. Pearl necklaces for men
More of a revolution than a fashion trend – pearls for men. Popularized by stars like Harry Styles, pearl necklaces for men have arrived and are wearable by everyone. They provide a striking contrast to everyday outfits and add that certain something to any party or evening outfit, attracting attention. With pearls, men emphasize their feminine side and make a statement in today's world.
2. Tank tracks as an eye-catcher
The name of this chain may sound a bit martial and take some getting used to, but as a fashion accessory for men, these necklaces with chunky links in various sizes have become a must-have. These chains originated in the rap and hip-hop scene, where protagonists wore curb chains in sometimes absurd sizes. This was the reason why curb chains were long frowned upon as gang wear and thus unwearable for men.
There is now a large selection of curb chains – different sizes of links in different lengths and materials (stainless steel, silver or gold-plated).
3. Necklaces with pendants
Pendant necklaces are the classic style of men's neckwear. Understated chains (usually silver or, in the more sophisticated form, gold) with a pendant (a cross or a zodiac sign) were the standard for a long time. Now, the trend is moving toward bolder originality and individuality. Stronger chains and unusual pendants—such as those made of forged carbon—are becoming more popular.
4. Not one but several
The true strength and uniqueness of men's necklaces only emerges when combining different pieces – of different lengths or materials. The principle here is: what's right is what I like and what best represents my style. However, one should always wear and combine them appropriately for the occasion.
The right length of the necklace
In addition to choosing the right style for a men's necklace, the right length is also important. If you're unsure, especially if you're buying a necklace for the first time, simply wrap a piece of string or thread around your neck and measure. Men's necklaces are available in many lengths – from 40 cm (snug) to 90 cm (very long). Most necklaces are available in a length of 50 cm. They offer versatility when worn with a shirt or T-shirt, with or without a collar, and allow room for men with larger necks. Ideally, you'll want to find a chain that's adjustable.
Short chains (40-45 cm) sit directly at the base of the neck and are worn without pendants. This length will be too short for older men or men with strong necks.
50 to 55 cm is the standard length for men's necklaces. They are worn with or without a pendant and sit around the first and second shirt buttons. These lengths can be worn over a shirt (or round-neck shirt) and also look great with two buttons undone underneath (50 cm length).
75 cm and longer is considered a standard long length (up to the sternum) or unusual and should be evaluated based on style. Chains 90 cm or longer can be double wrapped.
Men wear jewelry—especially around their necks—in all sizes, shapes, and materials. They need the right fashion statement for every occasion.
