Casio watches enjoy cult status. The popularity and recognition of the Casio brand is based, among other things, on its ability to combine expertise with a spirit of innovation and creativity. Casio watches are and always have been equipped with innovations (a calculator on a watch) and impress with bold designs. The CASIO principles are "Creativity and Contribution." They describe the company's commitment to making a social contribution with original and useful products. The Casio Vintage series, in particular, perpetuates this spirit and delights Casio enthusiasts with constantly new creations.
In 1946, Tadao Kashio founded the company "Kashio Seisakujo" in Tokyo with his three younger brothers Toshio, Kazuo, and Yukio. In 1957, the company became Casio Computer Co., Ltd. The first major success was the innovation of the first electric pocket calculator, which was smaller, quieter, and faster than competitors' devices.
In 1974, the Casiotron QW02 was Casio's first watch. The early 1970s were a time of technological change, with the transition from mechanical to quartz watches. As a pioneer in the calculator industry, Casio decided to enter the timepiece business. The company realized that by producing digital watches, a type of quartz watch, it could leverage the technology it had developed for calculators.
In addition to displaying hours, minutes, and seconds, the QW02 featured the world's first watch calendar, which automatically adjusted for longer and shorter months. With a conventional watch, it was necessary to reset the calendar date on the first of each month, but the QW02 eliminated this hassle. Casio subsequently also created a fully automatic calendar watch that even correctly displayed February 29th in leap years. In 1976, Casio released the X-1. In addition to displaying the time, the X-1 featured stopwatch and world time functions. Casio went on to develop many other multifunctional digital watches that utilized its digital technology.
