Founded in 1884 by Karl Elsener in Ibach-Schwyz as a small knife maker, the company rose to prominence in 1891 when the founder first delivered the soldier's knife to the Swiss Army. In 1897, Elsener developed it into the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife, the world-famous Swiss Army Knife.
